Full Bio

Born In 1982, a native to Lorain Ohio, Melisa grew up living with her grandparents Frances and James Lasure. She attended Clearview High School  as well as Lorain County J.V.S. While in J.V.S she attended the Culinary Arts program graduating in 2001. In 2003, she welcomed the addition of her daughter Chyenne. Who inspired her to start to put her dreams to paper. A story she wrote after her daughter's birth, although not published, became the stepping stone to everything else she would eventually write. In 2011 near tragedy struck as Melisa's health began to decline. By the summer of 2011, she would need to use a cane to get around. Suffering a stroke, she required a craniotomy where she suffered her second stroke. Leaving her with a partial impairment of her speech, and weakness on her right side. After surgery, she would need to learn not only to walk again, but speak as well as recognize the alphabet. Two years later in the fall of 2012 after a divorce, she would meet the man who would push her not only to fight to regain her physical strength but to put her creative mind to work. No longer allowing her to dwell on what she could no longer do but what she could. In December of 2013, they would marry. With determination, Melisa would walk down the aisle without the need of a cane. In 2016, she would see her dream come true. With her daughter as her editor "Of Lite and Darke" was born.

==== Early Life ====

Being raised in Lorain, Ohio by her grandparents; Melisa attended the Clearview School District. From an early age, she had an ear for music and often part of the Choir. She was known to be helpful as much as possible while within both Junior and Senior years of school. Volunteering as a teacher's aid, office aid, and in peer mediation groups. Although, her shyness kept her from pursuing anything that made her stand out. This would change lightly in the fall of 1999 when she would attend the local vocational school named The Lorain County J.V.S. Under the supervision on leadership of the staff Melisa would start to come out of her shell. Partaking in her first solo competition for Bakery and Pastry Arts.

In the spring of 2001 she would graduate from both L.C.J.V.S and Clearview High School. Yet her dreams and ambitions were still forming and not yet ready to become reality.

=== Career ===

===== Early work =====

Fresh from High School Melisa put her dream of owning a restaurant on hold. Instead of going off to college where she had been accepted into the prestigious Johnson and Wales University, she opted to get real world experience. Working in fast food while trying to figure out life she began to write during her free time. Sometimes little poems and later adding on Fan Fiction Some of which can still be found in its entirety on sites like FanFiction.net . These are all unedited, uncensored works. However, they would eventually evolve into the career that she has today.

In 2016 Melisa would publish her first book "The New Reign: Of Lite and Darke." This would start off as a series of lessons. This would be the first book where she would start to learn computer applications such as PhotoShop, Daz3d, and other creative art programs. But it would be lessons in how not to publish that would be the most useful. Learning about book size, formatting, copywriting would be a stepping stone to advancing her career. As such there is a limited number of copies of her first book still circulating today. But that would not be the last of her first book. At six months after original publication, it would be picked up by her first publisher becoming a best seller in France for all of a week. Yet Melisa would never see the royalties from this publisher.There are still a few copies floating around the bookshelves of select Barn& Noble Stores. Yet the story of the New Reign would not end there. After being Picked up by a second publisher Melisa would become more serious about her writing. Penning the prequel and collection of short stories to tie into the Of Lite and Darke Series.

Yet the passion for writing and the earning to succeed did not stop at the mere conception of her books. With this she would begin to seek new skills. Taking marketing classes online with Boston University with the help of education website. Adding classes to become a licensed Self-Help coach. And learning the ins and outs of writing screenplays, doing film budgets and other behind the scenes work.

==== 2017 - present====

After penning the second and third book to her series as well as completing the first two screenplays, Melisa had the opportunity to promote her work out in Las Vegas. Although for her this was business trip not everything worked out as expected. Yet there was a silver lining. While doing what she called Pop-Up podcast which were aired on Facebook would lead her having her own radio show on Atlanta Mix 108 and Screen works Entertainment. With her knowledge in marketing she would take the radio broadcast, then create a quick video and place it on her YouTube page if for no other reason then for a log of whom she had the pleasure of speaking with. With her shyness still very much in the way it would not be until 2019 that she found her voice.

This would be her big year for growth. As she would leave the publishing company to venture out on her own. She had the vision to create a company that was for new authors to find their way. But also have the foothold for books that would have the backbone to become a potentially great film. Within months of forming her L.L.C Melisa would see first hand the flaws in her vision. However, she would see the potential for growth. With her twelve authors she would begin to formulate what was needed for her company. Seeing the endless possibilities she would conquer her shyness and do something that a year before she wouldn't have dreamed. She hoped a plan and set out to AFM  Taking with her her portfolio of potentially fifty films she was able to meet with some the industry leaders in filming, finance, marketing and in other behind the camera roles.

Yet it would not be, until connecting dots between a friend that she had met on a business networking site that things would begin to fall into place.

=== Personal Life ===

No one says life is meant to be easy. Nor should things worth have be handed to you. This is words that Melisa has lived by as they are words that her grandfather be-stilled upon her. Even if at the time she did not understand it.

Being raised by grandparents has it's share of life lessons. Learning history and being told about the world beyond the four corners of your neighborhood had a profound effect on Melisa. She was raised to see beyond what the media said. Taught to look at all of the possibilities and trust no one. Some of this you can find in her writing. Yet her grandfather taught her things in quiet that she would carry with her to this day. Even if it would take some life experiences for her to fin the meaning behind those lessons.

After high school Melisa like so many others would stray from the path that she knew to be right. Falling into a deep depression she allowed herself to no longer care for the world around her. It wouldn't be until she found herself single under the age of twenty and pregnant that she would try to find her path in life. Welcoming her daughter Chyenne Lynn Lyons into her life on March 22, 2003 Melisa vowed to raise her child without the hardships had witnessed.

Just under two years later she would marry her first husband. With dreams of being whisked away she married. Yet it wasn't really the fairy tale tat she had envisioned. Yet it would not be until the spring of 2011 that their marriage reached the point of no return. As Melisa's health began to rapidly decline as did her marriage. Eleven days after her craniotomy she would be forced to file for divorce papers. Yet even with her divorce her health was not yet stable. Depression from the loss of the lie that she had, the inability to do simple task of writing and speaking English her will to thrive diminished. Once again living with her grandmother and mother, along with her autistic daughter it would take her a year to find her will to push forward.

In the fall of 2012 she would find her the man who would become her second husband.

Melisa has always had the mentality of putting others first. Putting their needs before her own. This was how she started her life of her second marriage. Bright smiles in public and staying in the shadows while home. Although she credits her second marriage with the reasons behind her recovery and her creation of her books. There is much of the years of this marriage that until recently was kept in the dark. Yet it would be the final push for her to stop holding herself back. With the weight of divorce pushing her down and the threat of someone taking the company that she was trying to build, Melisa went public with video and audio of some of the Domestic Violence that she allowed herself to live with. She now uses the videos to educate others so that they can find the courage to leave the situation. She is quoted saying " I am not one to stay silent. I am not one to hide in the shadows. Nor am I ashamed at placing my life for all the world to see.  For as long as we do nothing to speak up thing like this will continue to happen."
